I expanded my family law practice to include collaborative law, mediation, and arbitration because of my concern with how the traditional court process tears families apart. These alternatives can lead to effective resolution of family disputes in a manner that helps preserve the dignity of the parties and focus on underlying interests, keeping the children’s interests in the forefront.
I graduated from Queen's University with a Bachelor of Commerce in 1991, and from the Bachelor of Laws program at the University of Western Ontario in 1994. I was called to the Ontario Bar in 1996. I am actively involved in the Oakville community.
Karen Thompson has been practicing Family Law since she was called to the Bar in 1991. In addition, Karen is a trained arbitrator and acts as an agent for the Office of the Children's Lawyer. Karen believes that the best agreements for separating spouses are made by them, with the assistance of able counsel.
