Joelle works with families in transition, helping her clients make their way through the end of a marriage in a peaceful, respectful manner. Separation is difficult emotionally and financially, but the collaborative process can ease the way by allowing and encouraging open communication and respectful discussions about end-of-marriage issues. Children remain at the forefront of all decision-making: the clients may be ending their marriage, but they will still be parents. Collaborative law allows separating couples to create a unique agreement that works for their situation and their family.
Although most of her work involves the collaborative process, Joelle also mediates family issues, negotiates marriage contracts, cohabitation agreements and separation agreements when the collaborative process is not the best option, and provides estate planning advice as part of her Wills and estates practice. Joelle believes strongly in peaceful negotiation; she does no court-related work.
Joelle worked as an investment advisor for 5 years, and worked primarily as a tax and estate planning lawyer for the first part of her legal career. She has a business degree (B.Comm.) and two law degrees (BCL and LL.B), and continues to attend seminars, conferences and trainings. Her varied education and work experience contribute to the skills she brings to the table in her current professional roles.
